SATS in joint venture with Air India for Bangalore project; Posted: 02 May 2007 2049 hrs

Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) will provide ground handling services at the upcoming Bangalore International Airport in southern India.

This has been made possible after SATS signed a joint venture agreement with Air India on Wednesday.

The provision of ground handling services will be on top of the cargo handling services that SATS will already provide under a previous joint venture agreement.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Transport Minister Raymond Lim, who is on a trip to India currently, and Air India's Chairman and Managing Director V. Thulasidas.

The Air India-SATS consortium is one of two bidders who has secured the seven-year concession after a tender exercise by the Bangalore International Airport.

Bangalore International Airport is scheduled to start operations in April next year.

Passenger and air cargo traffic in India's major cities, including Bangalore, are expected to grow by over 25 percent in the coming years

SATS said the ground handling services agreement has no immediate material financial impact on its earnings per share or net tangible assets per share.
